Selfish rock stars can be a lot like bad diets
Even though she was a fictional character, Penny Lane went through one particular situation in Cameron Crowes “Almost Famous” that can teach us all a lesson. Here’s the rundown: she falls in love with this band, and it just so happens that the lead guitarist (or bassist, I forget) finds her intriguing. She is so smitten over him, blah, blah, blah. It wouldn’t be a problem except it’s a destructive relationship: he returns home to his girlfriend and goes loops over Bob Dylan in a diner while she almost over doses in a hotel room…forgotten. It’s funny but it reminds me of myself shopping: it all seems so glamorous, dieting, the skinny thing, the fashion BUT it can be so destructive. And it’s such a waste of time. A person can fall in love with an idea of happiness while being miserable. Penny was at her best when she was appreciated and free. Tiny lesson: let it go. Try to get in a good bike ride while jamming out to your I-pod, have some yummy grapes instead of a Hershey’s every now and then, and tell all the stress (or jerk rock star, annoying diet) to suck it. Life is too short to be feeling less than you are.
